YOLA to Get a Home in Inglewood

YOLA will get a 17,000-square-foot permanent headquarters in Inglewood, to be designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry.

Gehry’s transformation will turn a 1960s bank building at the corner of Manchester Boulevard and La Brea Avenue into the Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center, named for the project’s donors. Construction is expected to take about two years to complete.

The Center will have room for administrative offices and teaching space for 500 students. It will also be a place where students from the multiple YOLA sites can come together.

“I’ve seen the difference that YOLA makes in young people’s lives,” said the 88-year-old architect, who also designed the LA Phil’s landmark Walt Disney Concert Hall. “I’m proud to play my part by making spaces where the kids can feel inspired, and YOLA can open up the whole world of music to them.”

The new Inglewood site is part of a major YOLA expansion plan that includes doubling the number of students to 2,000 in the next four years and the creation of the YOLA Institute to provide pre-conservatory training for those seeking a music career.
