Welcome to the Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center

Last week, the LA Phil and architect Frank Gehry announced their plans for the Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center @ Inglewood. Thomas “Tom” Beckmen is no stranger to YOLA. He was one of the voices on the LA Phil’s Board of Directors who led the charge in making YOLA a core institutional priority for the orchestra.

YOLA serves more than 1,200 students each year with intensive instrumental instruction, academic support, and leadership opportunities that will prepare its graduates to be successful whether they pursue a career in music or any field of their choosing.

“For more than a decade, I’ve had the privilege to see and hear YOLA’s students, as they have grown into gifted musicians and inspiring young leaders in their communities. The YOLA Center will be a permanent, musical home for these students and generations of students to follow. We couldn’t be more proud to play our part in helping the LA Phil realize this historic expansion of YOLA.”

In addition to hosting the program’s fifth site, the Beckmen Center will also serve as the home for the YOLA Institute — a hub for YOLA’s oldest students, where they will receive private lessons and audition support, take college prep and application classes, and perform together in a cross-site super orchestra.

Beckmen invites those who share his (and Dudamel’s) belief in the power of music to change lives to join him in making a gift to support the YOLA Center.
