YOLA Chamber Groups Visit Princeton

YOLA sent 11 musicians, including five alumni, to Princeton University in early January as part of Gustavo Dudamel’s residency at Princeton University Concerts.

Three YOLA groups — a woodwind quintet, string quartet and string trio — provided a musical preview on Jan. 7 before a chamber group performance from the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Students also got a tour of the Ivy League campus and met with their peers at Trenton Music Makers, an El Sistema program in New Jersey.

Dudamel’s first major academic residency has included two visits to Princeton’s campus so far. Both featured performances and public conversations on arts education and El Sistema. When he returns in late April, he will take part in another El Sistema community event, working with instructors from Trenton, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.
