YOLA Spring Concerts

On April 1st and 2nd, YOLA musicians, family and friends filled all corners of Walt Disney Concert Hall for YOLA’s annual spring concerts. More than 450 grades 2-12 students from each YOLA site—EXPO Center, HOLA, Torres, and Camino Nuevo—performed highlights from their past year of programming over the two days. The concerts showcased a wide range of performances, including wind, brass, percussion, and string chamber ensembles led by site teaching artists, and symphony orchestras led by YOLA conductor Juan Felipe Molano.

The family-friendly events began pre-concert, with the first night a reception in the Blue Ribbon Garden featuring an Oaxacan Ensemble and local vendors sharing tacos, churros, and esquites. A chamber ensemble performance took place in BP Hall on April 2nd.

Repertoire included works by Brahms, Mancini, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, and many more. LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, YOLA musicians Stella Ramirez (Torres), John Sunderman (HOLA), Alison Galindo (HOLA), and YOLA alumna Juliana Rodriguez (currently working at Torres) gave remarks throughout the programs.
